UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
NICOTINE RESEARCH LABORATORY
From 1985 through 2009, the University of Michigan Nicotine Research Laboratory, led by Dr. Ovide F. Pomerleau, maintained an interdisciplinary program of research on individual differences in tobacco use, cigarette smoking, and nicotine dependence. Its work focused on the subjective, behavioral, and neuroendocrine responses to nicotine in smokers, former smokers, and never-smokers stratified by gender and psychiatric cofactors; and on situational and genetic factors driving smoking behavior and nicotine self-administration.

Although no longer active, the Laboratory and its legacy continue to exert a broad influence on fields ranging from public health to the study of molecular mechanisms. More detailed information on lines of research pursued by the Laboratory and and its findings as reported in scientific publications can be found elsewhere on this site.
